Medical Assistant - Program Director

Location: Hayward, CALIFORNIA
Overall responsibilities:
Responsible for the site supervision , development, planning, coordination, organization, implementation and evaluation of the Medical Assistant (MA) activities;  Assists the Assistant Chief Academic Officer and Chief Academic Officer in various aspects of the overall program and implementing special projects.

Administrative related duties:
  • Plans, develops, manages, updates and evaluates all aspects of the program including, but not limited to:
  • Program budget
  • Faculty and staff
  • Clinical site liaison
  • Curriculum development and implementation
  • Program compliance with Accreditation and Approval bodies rules and regulations
  • Prepares for and Represents programs for site visits
  • Student advocate
  • Program policies and procedures
  • Faculty and student handbooks
  • Supplies and equipment to meet program objectives.
  • Prepares data and other written materials for all required state and accreditation requirements, reports, proposals, self-studies, surveys, and site visits.
  • 3.   Maintains student and faculty records on site and works with Human Resources to maintain required documentation of faculty and staff qualifications including but not limited to faculty evaluations.
  • Assists with identifying and obtaining outside resources for the MA program.
  • Develops and implements program policies and procedures.
  • Organizes and serves on committees.
  • Oversees admission process and orientation.
  • Accepts other duties as assigned, including teaching load.
  • Effectively serves as liaison between the community and the college.
Clinical Site Responsibilities:
  • Develops and maintains educational partnerships with externship sites
  • Performs a clinical site evaluation that includes a thorough assessment on the ability of the agency to provide clinical experience that meets the objectives for application of theory and clinical course objectives. The assessment includes an analysis of risk, hazards and safety of all students, as well as ensuring adequate staffing to handle clinical objectives.
  • Meets with specific externship faculty or agency educational representative to discuss and confirm number of students, dates, times, and clinical objectives.
  • Working with Director of Partner Development, Clinical Coordinator and Career Services completes and forwards externship approval forms as required prior to initiating clinical rotations.
  • Maintains evaluations by students, clinical sites representatives, and faculty at completion of each clinical rotation and provides summary report to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Ensures clinical contracts are updated and maintained.
  • Represents programs at Advisory Committee Meetings and as needed
Faculty Duties
  • Participates in faculty recruitment, hiring and orientation.
  • Facilitates MA faculty meetings on a regular basis and insures adequate records and minutes of the meetings are maintained.
  • Participates in conflict resolution for faculty and students.
  • Assigns and schedules faculty to course and oversight of externship sites
  • Initiates and maintains community relationships; advocates for and markets the program
  • Monitors quality of instruction and participates in faculty and program review, evaluation, and strategic planning.
  • Maintains membership and participates in activities of professional associations.
Student Related Duties
  • Provides advising, support, and planning assistance to potential students.
  • Provides input and ensure that students are properly oriented to classroom, lab and externship sites
  • Manages student appeals and grievances.
  • Participates in the planning and review process for the recruitment and admission of qualified students.
  • Advises and provide academic support to students as indicated.
  • Assures that all students have completed the necessary documentation and met the requirements for graduation and licensing/certification exams.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of the Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Ensures that minutes are maintained and shared with members of the advisory committee.
  • Ensures that advisory meetings are held at least twice a year.
  • Participates in professional development; maintains CE hours
  • Participates in community related activities as representative of Unitek College as indicated.
  • Maintains current knowledge of State rules and regulations as relate to the practice of  Medical Assistants.
  • Maintains current knowledge of and participates in activities associated with MA association as applicable.
Education and Experience:
  • Hold a Baccalaureate Degree from an Accredited School; Master’s degree or MD preferred.
  • Current California active R.N. License if applicable.
  • 3 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment
  • 5 years of industry experience in the field of instruction.
  • 2 years of experience in a management or supervisory role
  • Ability to qualify as an instructor
  • Minimum of 1 year teaching experience in a state accredited or approved school within the last five years; or a minimum of three years’ experience in health care related field administration or education within the last five years.
  • Preferred: completed a course or courses offered by an accredited school with instruction in: Administration, teaching and curriculum development.
